Optics and chocolate: a perfect match

Who said that chocolate and optics don’t go together?!

Today, the group was welcomed by our student Jean-Philippe Leclerc, who runs Laura Secord’s factory in Quebec City. Not only does he manage the factory’s operations, but he is also doing his master’s degree in an industrial setting to characterize sugar particles in a chocolate flow in real time.

Our students visited the plant and learned about the production of chocolate, from the cocoa bean to the packaging. Of course, a taste test for quality control was required!

Many thanks to Jean-Philippe for receiving us, it was a memorable visit.
